In this collection, DeMott delves into the imaginative, creative, and sometimes neglected aspects of John Steinbeck’s writing. Abigail Chabitnoy’s poetry collection, In the Current Where Drowning is Beautiful, is a mediation on water, land, women, and violent environmental changes as they affect both the natural world and human migration.
Marguerite Feitlowitz translates Ennio Moltedo’s Night into English. This collection was written during the Pinochet dictatorship and published after democracy’s return. Moltedo’s collection is controlled rage, mourning, resistance, and astonishing humor. This is the first of his books to appear in English. Cynthia Hogue’s latest collection instead, it is dark is forthcoming in 2023. Last, but not least, Olga Montenegro gives her views on Jody Keisner’s Under My Bed and Other Essays where it “is through Grace, ironically, that the readers find a form of respite and the goal that, regardless of how much this world tells us we’re not welcomed, there are ways to not be afraid.”

Applause International Undergraduate Literary Journal Open For Submissions—Paying Venue
Deadline: February 14, 2023
Applause Issue 33: The (In)Evitable Ending. Evitable; adj. That admits of being avoided; avoidable. Applause is looking for the most interesting angles we can find as your work approaches its “evitable ending.” We begin knowing there’s an end, but the ending doesn’t have to be inevitable to satisfy the reader. Sometimes the end of “what actually happened” is really the poem, story, or essay’s beginning. Sometimes the piece decides the end. We’re looking for original poems, stories, essays, and visual art that showcases what happens when we avoid the avoidable. Imagine the ending. Avoid it. Send it to us.
