New Submission Opportunities & Great Literature #117
NewPages Newsletter Featuring 49 Submission Opportunities & Upcoming Events
Happy Monday! How has your writing life been going? We hope well. Are you able to get much reading in? We hope so. We are always here to help you find a great place to submit to and some great literature to read. March in our part of the world came in like a playful kitten and brought some decidedly spring, almost summer-like weather. But we all know that playful kittens come with claws, so I am sure we will have a roaring lion hitting us by the end of the month.
It may be hard to believe, but next week is already mid-month and that means you will have the NewPages eLitPak to look forward to. If you have a journal, event, new title, or submission opportunity to share with our newsletter community, you can learn more here.
On the Magazine Stand, you can learn more about the latest issues of your favorite (or soon-to-be favorite) literary journals. Enjoy poetry by Jennifer Atkinson, Tyler Barton, Dante Di Stefano; fiction by Tamas Dobozy, JB Hwang, Erin MacNair; nonfiction by Gary Belsky, Chelsea Catherine, and Allen M. Price in Issue 34.2 of december.
The newest issue of bioStories (13.1) features twenty new essays, including three of their 2023 Pushcart Prize nominees. Enjoy work by Andrea Abbot, Dina Alvarez, Michelle Cacho-Negrete, Sally Carton, and Yoon Chung, to name a few contributors. “Writing the Polycrisis” headlines the March/April 2024 issue of World Literature Today with a cover illustration by Edel Rodriguez and content showcasing contributions by nine writers, mainly from the Global South.
Come back to the Magazine Stand throughout the week to discover The Lake March 2024 issue and The Baltimore Review Winter 2024 issue.
In book news, last week we posted a complete list of new and forthcoming book titles we received during the month of February. This is a great jumping off point if you are looking to build up your reading lists. Speaking of reading lists, another helpful tool is reviews, right?
Kevin Brown gives his thoughts on Kaveh Akbar’s debut novel Martyr! which tells the story of Cyrus Shams, the only son of his mother Roya—who was killed when the United States shot down an Iranian passenger plane in 1988—and his father Ali, who dies shortly after Cyrus leaves for college, as if he has completed his job of raising his son.
Come back to the blog for a review of Modern Poetry by Diane Seuss.
